How To Stop Hating What You Draw
You have to get past that feeling of 'everything has to look good'
I was listening to a podcast the other mean solar day about figure drawing, and the creative person in question, who I greatly adore for beingness a /very/ practiced figure drawer, said something forth the lines of
"The thing virtually figure drawing, or any cartoon really, is that you lot accept to expect the starting time dozen or so images each fourth dimension to be terrible, you merely don't worry about that, everytime I go to a figure drawing session, the starting time twelve odd drawings while I'm getting warmed up are awful, absolute rubbish, simply that's ok, because the good stuff comes later on, you but have to exist enlightened it takes a while to go into the catamenia of cartoon."
I know the x,000 hour rule has been debunked, but actually, it /is/ about mileage, and about how much yous've already been drawing that day, and how many times you've tried to draw that thing you're drawing at present. Each time you lot decide to re-create someone else's fashion, you're starting back at square one, of grade it'due south not going to satisfy yous! It will take time and lots of practise to grab on to those tiny little nuances which brand that artists piece of work, piece of work.
Stop trying to emulate others and merely concentrate on trying to depict what you desire to describe, and terminate putting high expectations on it, that frustration y'all are feeling has more to do with the fact yous are looking for perfection in every drawing than in the fact you aren't cartoon well. For every fully fledged illustration you see posted by another artist, I can tell yous there is a whole bunch of exercise that happened first that y'all don't see, equally a general rule the first, 2nd, 10th fourth dimension you describe something it'south not going to exist quite how you want it to exist, but you keep at it, y'all'll find it.
Chin upwardly!
